Seattle’s legendary mascot, Henry Sasquatch, steps out of folklore and into the limelight at the Space Needle with MXTreality’s Henry Sasquatch Hologram Experience. Using the PROTO holographic display, this immersive encounter reimagines Henry in a playful, family-friendly format.
Henry starts his appearance shyly, peeking from the edges of the screen and quickly retreating. Visitors can’t help but smile as Henry’s antics grow bolder—he peeks from above, below, and eventually from behind, showcasing a charming personality. Finally, Henry warms up to the crowd, inviting guests to take a selfie before disappearing back into the virtual wilderness.
Inspired by the work of Seattle muralist Ryan Henry Ward, this holographic interpretation celebrates local art and culture while delighting visitors of all ages. The Henry Sasquatch hologram is proof that the Space Needle isn’t just about breathtaking views, it’s also about creating connections with Seattle’s unique heritage.
What is a Hologram?
A hologram is a 3D image created using light, sound, or other forms of energy to produce a visual representation of an object or scene that appears three-dimensional to the viewer. Unlike traditional 2D images or videos, holograms can be viewed from different angles, allowing them to appear lifelike and dynamic. This effect is achieved by recording light patterns and reconstructing them to simulate depth, movement, and realism.
In the case of the PROTO holographic display at the Space Needle, the holograms are created using cutting-edge volumetric technology. This allows 3D characters, like the astronaut, Sasquatch, and octopus, to appear as though they are truly existing within their virtual space, visible from every angle, and interacting with their environment in real-time. Holograms can move fluidly and appear with a level of realism that captivates visitors, offering a truly immersive experience.
Where Next?
Holographic displays, like the ones featured at the Space Needle, push the boundaries of traditional entertainment and give guests a chance to engage with technology in new and exciting ways, making them feel as though they are a part of the action.
These volumetric experiences represent Phase 1 of an exciting multi-phase project. In Phase 2, known as Mimic-Mode, visitors will take center stage as they become part of the action. Using advanced motion-tracking technology, your movements will be mirrored by the holograms, allowing you to step into the shoes of the Sasquatch, astronaut, or even the octopus. This next phase will immerse you in the experience like never before, offering a truly interactive and personalized adventure.
