4. Design & Comfort

While very much a personal preference, there are some distinct and noteworthy differences:

DPVR E4:

  • Weight: Approximately 400 grams (very light)

  • Design: Balanced weight distribution with adjustable head strap

  • Comfort Features: Face cushion, s/w adjustable IPD (Interpupillary Distance), and a FLIP-UP visor, which we loved.

Meta Quest 3:

  • Weight: Approximately 503 grams

  • Design: Sleek and balanced with improved ergonomics

  • Comfort Features: Facial interface, adjustable IPD, and optional accessories for enhanced comfort

HTC Vive Focus 3:

  • Weight: Approximately 625 grams

  • Design: Professional and ergonomic with battery counterweight at the back

  • Comfort Features: Manual adjustable IPD, high-quality face cushion, and an active cooling system

Summary = this is a tough one, yet we love the lightweight and flip-up visor of the E4.

5. Software & Ecosystem

I think we know the winner already, but let's go into details

DPVR E4:

  • Software Platform: DPVR ecosystem, compatible with SteamVR and some other PC VR platforms

Meta Quest 3:

  • Software Platform: Meta ecosystem with access to Quest Store, compatible with Oculus Link for PC VR

  • Special Features: Mixed reality (MR) capabilities, hand tracking

HTC Vive Focus 3:

  • Software Platform: Viveport, compatible with SteamVR

Special Features: Enterprise-focused features, modular expansion, hand tracking

Summary = the Q3 wins hands down when it comes to software and ecosystem. This is particularly relevant for consumers, yet for commercial/enterprise, this doesn't matter as much and can indeed be a hindrance.

6. Price

DPVR E4 = Approximately $599

Meta Quest = $499 for the 128GB model, $649 for the 256GB model

HTC Vive Focus 3 = $1,300

Summary = While each headset offers a fair price for the offering, the Q3 is best suited to consumers, while the Vive

Summary

  • Display Quality: The DPVR E4 offers a higher resolution per eye compared to the Meta Quest 3 but matches the Vive Focus 3.

  • Performance: All three headsets utilize the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2, with the Meta Quest 3 using the Gen 2 variant for potentially better performance.

  • Comfort and Design: The Meta Quest 3 and Vive Focus 3 focus heavily on standalone ergonomics, but the Vive Focus 3 offers additional enterprise features. The E4 is the only one with a flippable visor.

  • Software Ecosystem: Meta Quest 3 has the advantage of a robust ecosystem and additional MR capabilities.

  • Price: The DPVR E4 is more affordable compared to the Vive Focus 3 but is slightly more expensive than the Meta Quest 3.

Overall, we have used all these headsets and until today, we would strongly recommend the F3 for enterprise experiences, and Q3 for standalones. Ultimately, the choice between these headsets would depend on your specific needs and preferences, yet we recommend them all!
