SysAR

In partnership with Terc, we created a STEM based AR learning tool that helps students of all ages learn, interrogate, and create “system models” in a hands-on interactive approach. This new learning technique helps students understand complicated models and easily adapt to understand how the impact of one item affects others.

In recent years, technology has revolutionized the way we learn and interact with information. One of the most exciting developments in this area is the use of augmented reality (AR) in education. AR is a technology that superimposes digital information onto the real world, creating an interactive and immersive experience. One area where AR is particularly useful is in systems modeling, a topic that is often taught in schools.

Systems modeling is the process of creating a simplified representation of a complex system in order to better understand its behavior. This can be done using diagrams, flowcharts, or other visual representations. However, these static models can be difficult for students to understand and interact with. This is where AR comes in.

With AR, students can see and interact with 3D models of systems, allowing them to explore the system in a way that was previously impossible. For example, students can use our AR app to see how the flow of water through a hydroelectric dam affects the generation of electricity. They can watch as the water flows through the turbines, and see how changes in the water flow affect the output of electricity. This interactive system experience makes it much easier for students to understand complex systems and how they work.

Another example of how sysAR can be used is to create simulations of real-world systems. Students can use the sysAR app to simulate traffic flow in a city. They can adjust traffic lights, add or remove cars, and see how these changes affect traffic congestion. This type of simulation can help students understand the complex interactions that occur in real-world systems, and how small changes can have a big impact.

One of the biggest benefits of using sysAR for systems modeling is that it can help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. By interacting with the simulations, students are forced to think about how different parts of a system are interconnected, and how changes in one part of the system can affect the whole. This type of thinking is essential for success in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.

The use of augmented reality in systems modeling is an exciting development in education. sysAR allows students to interact with complex systems in a way that was previously impossible, making it easier for them to understand and remember abstract concepts. By using the AR component of sysAR, students can develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills by applying systems models into their world.
