VR4MS - Underwater Music Room
In this experience, we combine the benefits of music therapy with upper body rehab. Users are able to have fun alone or in groups of up to 6, whereby they play specially designed instruments aimed to exercise in a fun collaborative way
Living with multiple sclerosis (MS) can be challenging, both physically and emotionally. Our virtual music room is designed to use music therapy as a valuable tool for people with MS to relieve stress, improve body movements, and build community. Our innovative approach to music therapy is to overcome real world limitations by leveraging the impossible; we offer:
- a sense of escape - our music room is located in a virtual underwater aquarium
- a sense of wonder - you are reduced to the size of a pufferfish and can interact with other aquatic animals
- a sense of ability - our instruments are custom created to ease the frustrations real world instruments have
- a sense of community - users can practice alone or join simultaneously with others.
Our underwater multiplayer virtual music room offers several unique advantages over traditional music therapy approaches.
Firstly, virtual music rooms provide a safe and accessible space for people with MS to connect and collaborate with others, regardless of their physical limitations. MS can often limit mobility, making it difficult for individuals to participate in traditional group music therapy sessions. However, with a virtual music room, individuals can participate from the comfort of their own homes, using only a VR device. This means that individuals with MS can still connect with others and benefit from the therapeutic effects of music, even if they are unable to leave their homes.
Secondly, virtual music rooms offer a wide range of musical instruments and tools that suit the needs and abilities of a wide variety of individuals and abilities. In traditional music therapy sessions, individuals may be limited to a few instruments with limited playing capabilities, depending on the resources available. However, in our virtual music room, individuals have access to a wide range of instruments and interaction possibilities, such as clam Kalimbas, starfish drum machines, and virtual reed bass, and large xylophone angler fish. This means that individuals can explore different musical styles and genres, experiment with new sounds, and find the instruments and tools that work best for them.
Thirdly, virtual music rooms provide a unique and immersive experience that can help individuals with MS to relax, reduce stress, and improve their overall well-being. Music has been shown to have a positive effect on the brain, helping to reduce anxiety, improve mood, and promote relaxation. In a virtual music room, individuals can immerse themselves in a virtual environment that is designed to promote relaxation and creativity. This can help individuals to let go of their worries and stresses, and focus on the music, which can have a powerful therapeutic effect.
In summary, our virtual music room offers several unique advantages for people with MS who are looking to relieve stress, improve body movements, and build community. By providing a safe and accessible space for individuals to connect and collaborate with others, offering a wide range of musical instruments and interaction options, and providing an immersive and relaxing experience, our virtual music room can be an effective tool for improving the physical and emotional well-being of individuals with MS. So, whether you're a seasoned musician or a complete beginner, why not try a virtual music room and see how it can help you?
